Make a poster! — Design for Obama!!!!!

I know my last couple posts have been all political but shit,… current events. It is what it is. This is really starting to weigh down on everyone as this election gets closer. But anyway… when you get a chance, as in right after you read this post, visit designforobama.org, and take a look at all the great artwork they have there. It’s all posters in support of the Obama campaign and is completely user generated which is the best part. You can even download different sized PDF’s of the ones you like most. The only downside is that the higher res ones are broken up onto multiple letter sized pages, which kind of blows. I’ve already went and downloaded all of them. Why not?!?! This is history here!! Go visit this site, download, comment, submit stuff and participate!

Obama campaigns appear in EA Games

I love it. Apparently EA has confirmed that Obama ads appear in some of their recent releases such as Madden ‘09, Madden NFL 09, Need For Speed: Carbon and Burnout Paradise. The ads only appear in the XBOX 360 versions of the games and, contrary to what I initially thought, don’t come on the game disc from the factory. They only become available to people once they’ve connected to XBOX Live. I think this is once again, another great move by Obama’s marketing and publicity team. I was already thoroughly impressed with the overall look and feel of his official website and printed communiciation earlier this year. This is just more proof that he has great people working for and backing him. Hopefully these efforts, and I believe they will, translate into voting numbers come election day.

Teen changes name to ‘Cutout Dissection.com’

CNN is reporting that a 19-year-old in North Carolina has legally changed her named to Cutout Dissection.com in protest of high school dissection. The website itself is one that takes the same stance and is supported by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. When the girl, whose birth name is Jennifer, was in High School she spearheaded a policy that would allow kids to complete an alternative assignment if they didn’t want to dissect. The article goes on to say that her family supports her choice and yada yada, so on and so forth.

(short pause)

This is stupid.

I’m sorry but it just is. I’m all for peoples attempts to change the world. I just think there are smarter ways to do it. Major thought needs to be put into choices like these and I’m not sure she did that. First off, think of your name. It’s pretty much everything. How you introduce yourself, how you’re addressed, the name on all your bills, credit cards and bank statements. It’s just stupid to change your name to a URL, especially one that doesn’t make any sense in a NORMAL sentence, since in reality, THIS is the context in which the name will be used.

Let’s see…

Boyfriend: “Hi, I want you me to meet my girlfriend, Cutout.” nope.

Telemarketers: “Hi um, may I speak to Ms. Dissection.com?” ‘fraid not.

College Professor: “Cutout, did you submit your paper?” ugh.

She’ll NEVER be a star… “And the Oscar goes to… Cutout Dissection.com!”

Just thank God she wasn’t like that in Kindergarten.

School teacher: “Cutout, cut it out and behave!”

None of these make ANY sense whatsover. I personally think she’s a clown. She’ll regret it in a year or two, and if I were her friend I would fully support her and call her by her name. I’d just do it MORE than I needed to so she’d get tired of hearing it, like at the beginning and end of each statement I addressed to her. Cutout, if you’re reading this I am sorry. Because Cutout, I didn’t mean to offend you. I fully support you changing your name to Cutout, Cutout. Cutout we’re here for you. Ok? Cool. Thumbs up for trying to change the world, thumbs down for doing it in a wierd, unconventional to the point of looking stupid kinda way.

The time has come. My homeboy/next door neighbor and I have decided enough is enough. The web is a huge world and it’s time we began the journey to grasping our fair share. There needs to be a new place for young soTruth be told, it ain’t easy for the early 20’s age group. On average we tend to be more adventurous in our exposure to things in which we aren’t accustomed. A brief look around any major city will tell you this. In terms of NYC, from the free-spirits of Williamsburg and Union Square, to the posh peeps of Midtown and the upper-east side, it’s all about the experience. We like to eat out, try new things, go to neighborhoods we’ve never been and meet new people. Also, the typical Saturday afternoon cliche may have changed as well. Movies, shopping or hitting the neighborhood park has always been dope; but so are museum visits, live music openings, wine tastings, and karaoke. Dining follows suit, you can keep it simple with Applebees sometimes… so what, but the new Sushi, Thai, Mongolian, Carribean, or French-African restaurant that’s getting great reviews may be worth getting the gang together for a night out. Fashion is equally eclectic; When the sun goes down dudes can swap the J’s and SB’s for a nice driver or loafer without looking out of place. Khaki’s or slacks can become the bottom when denim gets boring. All this and alot more will be covered so make sure you visit ASAP!.

Naomi for YSL

I was getting off the subway on my way to work and came across this YSL ad featuring Naomi Campbell. She looks good as usual. I liked it so I took a pic and posted through the iphone. Holla.

Just because it’s so true…

Ryan my art-director showed me this last week and I thought it was pretty cool(and accurate!). My fellow designers will understand.

Thrillist

You gotta love your city. Period. If you’re living somewhere you need to know what’s happening around you culturally, politically, on the leisure scene etc. With the fall and winter coming my peeps and I have started to seek out which places we plan to put on our list of regular spots. Dining, bars, etc. I was browsing some blogs the other day and came across Thrillist. Which is a site that sends a daily e-mail about some things that may be poppin in your area. For right now they have Boston, Chicago, L.A., New York and San Francisco; with Las Vegas only on Tuesday and Miami coverage on the way. The categories seemed to cover a plethora of interests so if you reside in any of these places you should join the mailing list and check out some of the spots they cover. The whole idea of Thrillist is that they don’t rate the places. They simply tell you about what they think is good. If they go somewhere and don’t like it, you won’t hear about it. So essentially anything you get in the e-mail is worth checking out according to them. I just joined today and will probably drag some folk during the weekends.
